Gifts in WIlls have had a huge impact on the support that we can offer our community. You don’t need to be wealthy to leave a gift to the Irish Kidney Association in your Will. If you decide to do so, it is simple to carry out.
Leaving A Legacy
Leaving a legacy is a private and personal decision. We will never pressure you in any way and respect your right to change your mind at any time in the future.
With a little help from a solicitor, a clause in your Will, in favour of the IKA, will ensure it reaches us at a future date.
Your gift to the IKA ensures we can continue delivering essential services across Ireland. By choosing to support our mission in your Will, you create a proud, lasting legacy that will be deeply appreciated for generations to come.
You don’t need to tell us if you choose to leave a gift to us, However, we would love to thank you and keep you updated about our work if you do decide to let us know.
Free Will Service
The Irish Kidney Association has teamed up with FreeWill.ie to provide people aged 53+ with a free online service to create or update your Will, using its Will drafting tool.
This online offering is suitable for many people. For those with more complex circumstances, it is generally recommended to use the services of a solicitor.

Anyone in Ireland aged 53 or over, or couples where one partner is 53 or older.
There is no obligation, though we hope you’ll consider supporting our work with a legacy after your loved ones are provided.
A Will that covers straightforward needs. Your solicitor will let you know if anything more complex if required.
You are generally able to leave four types of gift to a charity
The IKA has been granted tax-exempt status by the Irish Revenue Commissioners, which means that gifts made in a Will are exempt from inheritance tax – i.e. we will receive the gift in full.
Most people leave a bequest without restrictions in the knowledge that the IKA board at the time of receipt of their bequest will address the key issues and needs of the day. You can of course leave monies for a particular element of our work. You can make this legally binding within your Will, but this can become complicated if for some reason we are not able to meet the requirements specified. A more flexible way of doing this is to include a ‘Letter of Wishes’ – this is not a legal document but allows you to express your hopes for how the gift will be used, which we would always try our best to honour. We would of course also be very happy to discuss your wishes and ideas before you complete your Will and this may help provide additional clarity for you.
Making a gift to a charity is relatively simple. You need to get the name, address and Registered Charity Number of the charity you wish to give to and decide what gift you wish to make. Don’t worry – you don’t have to redo the whole Will. You can simply use an addition, known as a codicil, to make small and simple ammendments to your existing Will (although you can only have five codicils in place before it is recommended that you make a new Will).
