IKA invites political parties to include a YES Registry for organ donation in their election manifestos – 15 January 2020.

A letter by Mr. Mark Murphy, the Chief Executive of the Irish Kidney Association has been sent to the Spokespersons for Health from Ireland’s political parties inviting them to consider improving the ‘Human Tissue Bill’ in  their upcoming election manifesto with the inclusion of a ‘National Organ Donor Registry’ for the people who are willing to become organ donors (a ‘Yes’ Registry).

Currently, the Bill only provides for a Registry of people unwilling to be organ donors (a ‘No’ Registry).

Over one million people have already indicated their willingness to be organ donors by permitting the addition of Code 115 on their drivers’ licences. The transfer of this data to the HSE ‘Yes’ Registry would enable potential organ donor families to be informed of the positive decision, already made by their dying relative, towards organ donation after their death.
